The Palisades Fire is burning dangerously close to the Getty Villa Museum Tuesday as it continues to grow, forcing roughly 30,000 people to evacuate more than 10,000 homes . The fire, which has spread to vegetation surround the building, has not threatened the the Getty Villa structure itself, according to J. Paul Getty Trust President Katherine Fleming. "Museum galleries and library archives were sealed off from smoke by state-of-the-art air handling systems," Fleming told CBS New Los Angeles.

On Tuesday, the Palisades Fires ignited the grounds around the Getty Center and Villa, home to masterpieces by Monet, Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Turner, and Rubens. Despite concerns, the museum’s website reassured, “There is no need to evacuate the art or archives, because they are already in the safest place possible: the Getty Center itself.” The buildings are constructed with fire-resistant materials, feature open plazas to slow fires, and are surrounded by well-irrigated, brush-cleared landscaping
