As millions of Americans hunker down for the winter storm, 19 states and Washington, D.C., have declared states of emergency.

The most recent winter storm brought at least 5 inches of snow to much of Asheville, with certain parts of the Western N.C. region seeing more than a foot in total. The snow came a week after an initial storm brought ice to the region, causing road hazards and some power outages.

A winter storm warning has been issued for most of Hampton Roads as the region braces for a potentially significant snow storm and possible blizzard conditions this weekend. The warning is in effect from 4 a.

Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning, a system just south of Philadelphia may lift far enough north to deliver a light dusting of snow.
