The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning forecasting extreme snowfall totals and powerful winds that could make conditions dangerous.

The National Weather Service is working to hire back hundreds of positions laid off or otherwise cut by the Trump administration, but it’s progressing at a snail’s pace, forcing many offices to continue to cope with vacancies that could affect winter forecasts.

The National Weather Service issued a weather alert at 12:10 p.m. on Tuesday for freezing rain and showers until 1 p.m. for Montour, Northumberland, Columbia and Schuylkill counties.
