The Stranger Things finale was emotional for a host of reasons, although one of the most significant was the conclusion for Brown's character, Eleven/Jane. The Duffer Brothers elected to keep her ending open to interpretation, although she is either dead or she is far away, unable to ever reconnect with her friends or family.
